Sunsweet Growers Inc., was established in 1917 as the California Prune and Apricot Growers Association. The association selected "Sunsweet" as the brand name to present its products to the nations consumers.
The Yuba City plant was opened in 1975 with approx. 825'000 square feet of floor space and remains today the largest dried fruit processing plant in the world. In 1991, Sunsweet opened a bottling facility in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, to supply the ever-increasing demand for juice products.
Sunsweet is a co-operative, owned by over 650 growers/members with orchard holdings principally in California's Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys. Our members take a strong and direct interest in the management and operation of the organisation through local and regional boards. Their pride in and support of Sunsweet is based on the high quality products they have produced and delivered for packing, marketing and sale over the past 80 years. As Sunsweet has grown, its growers/members have prospered by changing with the times, investing in its plants and processes, and working together with dedicated management to build an efficient means to deliver healthy products at superior value to its customers.
Sunsweet has an enviable recognition of 85% in the US and is regarded as a premier American brand in over 40 countries. Sunsweet has developed and implemented comprehensive marketing programs in international developing and emerging markets and through a combination of well-focused advertising campaigns and targeted promotions, is positioned to introduce new customers to our healthy products and thereby dramatically increasing the distribution and sales of prunes and prune juice.
